Multitudes of Magic
Small moments that made me stop and savour
Hello friends.
Something I’ve been trying to do more of in the last few months - especially in the times when things have felt tough or particularly stressful and overwhelming - is to notice more little moments of magic.
To take an intentional pause, to really pay attention, to savour whatever experience it is with all my senses, to capture a mental picture of the memory.
Actually, that last part is kind of key, because I haven’t really been taking that many photos lately. Instead, I’ve been choosing to be present in the moment, in the 3D world.
So as I’ve been jotting down bits and pieces of this multitude of magical moments over the past few weeks, I thought I’d share some of them here.

It’s turned into a surprisingly fun exercise to try and summarise them in just a few words.
A few words that captures the essence of the magic and the fleetingness, in some cases, of the experience.
I’m sure I could just as easily expand them into stories with more detail (and OK, yes, some of them are a bit longer than others…),but I quite like testing my brevity in this way.
So here you are, a list of magical moments from the last few months in my world…
The full moon bright enough in a clear sky to cast shadows at midnight.
Dust motes sparkling as they dance in a shaft of sunlight.
Thick hoarfrost clinging to everything and blanketed in dense fog…before slowly, eventually, the rising sun begins to burn through and the whole world glitters and glistens.
Opening the window to hear the blackbird and robin begin the dawn chorus.
Listening to choirs singing classical Christmas carols with the radio turned down low in the background.
The fresh pine scent of the real Christmas tree when I go downstairs in the morning.
Reading my book surrounded by a grotto of fairy lights.
Cosy knitted blankets tucked around legs and steaming mugs of hot chocolate cradled in warming hands.
Leaning halfway out of the upstairs window to catch a glimpse of the briefest rainbow during a passing shower.
A new, blank, 300 page notebook and a fresh pack of coloured pens.
Hugs from a friend you haven’t seen all year.
The rumbling vibration of a lover’s chuckling laugh through their chest as they hold you in their arms.
Waking up from a deep, long sleep, with no alarm, and feeling rested and comfortable (so comfortable you might just roll over and doze off again…)
Shared stories in Circle with other women, and the full spectrum of emotion that comes from being seen, heard, and held.
Being aware of how quickly skin heals. After a nasty mosquito bite on the side of my neck (in late November?! In England?!) it was remarkable to notice how it changed from angry red and excruciatingly itchy to oozing clear fluid (sorry!) to a fading pink dot within just a few days. Isn’t the human body incredible?
The new neighbourhood puppy I’ve been meeting on my walks - a golden retriever who sits at the kerb, all lollopy legs and head tipped to one side, waiting oh-so politely for me to cross the road and give him hello pats.
Playing the piano for the first time in a long time, fingers tripping over each other until they remember the familiar patterns, the notes and harmonies ringing out with increasing confidence, a smile on my face as I sway to the rhythm.
Finding my first ever hag stones on a bright but bracing winter beach walk.
Ordering multiple pairs of trousers from an online sale - and they all fit! (Trousers are the worst when you’re a curvy shape like me)
Trying out new recipes with new ingredients, enjoying the process of preparing and cooking them, the alchemy of flavours combining, and discovering that they turn out to be delicious.
Plans confirmed for the year ahead that give punctuation points of anticipation to the coming months.
Completing a knitting project that’s been on the needles for months and finally having something new, snuggly and handmade to wear.
Buying packets of seeds and imagining how such tiny specks will grow and flourish into abundant beauty come summer.
Realising that all the work I’ve done for my physical health has paid dividends when I can walk further and faster, lift heavier, or achieve movements I haven’t been able to for years.
Investing in myself by seeking support from groups and mentors who will challenge and encourage my dreams and plans.
One small square of good dark chocolate, savoured slowly.
The cosy fluffiness of a brand new towel after a hot shower.
Sinking into bed at night feeling satisfied with the progress made on different projects during the day.
I’d love to hear about any magical moments - big or small - in your life recently.
Please share in the comments, and let’s get a whole web of multitudinous magic spreading!
Until next time, I’m sending you so much love x
